Exfoliation is a method of removal of dead skin cells. As we get older, our skin loses its ability to shed the dead cells naturally, and hence removal of dead cells or exfoliation using different products becomes important. Exfoliation helps in revealing the fresh and newer skin which is hidden under the dead skin cells. Exfoliating also keeps your skin clean, and the pores clear which reduces the chances of getting acne or other skin-related problems. There are several products available in the market to exfoliate the skin, but these creams or gels are very costly, and you can?t be sure about the ingredients in them. So here we come with some homemade solutions which are very helpful for exfoliation.
-
Brushing:
This is one of the easiest, cheapest and fastest method of exfoliating whole body. You don?t need any cream, or scrub to exfoliate, just get a soft bristled brush and gently brush your skin, starting from feet and coming up. It will just take some 4-6 minutes to exfoliate whole body. Once finished, cleanse the skin and moisturize it.
-
Citrus Fruits:
Citrus fruits contain many forms of acids, which are excellent exfoliators. You don?t even have to rub or scrub these fruits. Just mix some citrus fruit juice with yogurt or milk and apply it on the skin. They act as natural chemical peel and will cleanse the skin.
-
Baking Soda:
It?s one of the most common thing found in the kitchen. Mix some baking soda with honey and a little water. Use this mixture as exfoliating cream. This can also be used as a skin lightener and anti-microbial properties of honey will help in reducing many skin problems.
-
Dry Towel:
Another very simple method of exfoliating. The next time, after you take shower and have dried your body completely, take a dry towel and rub it against your whole body. This will remove all the dead skin cells from the body.
-
Loofah or Exfoliating Gloves:
Buy these from a normal drug store. As these products are made of sponge, they will exfoliate the skin while you are in shower.
-
Oatmeal:
Mix oatmeal with honey and gently rub on the skin. This is as abrasive as other natural exfoliators but is highly useful with people having sensitive skin as some of the things mentioned above may be harsh for their skin.
-
Sugar:
There are a number of liquids that you can mix sugar with to make an excellent exfoliating scrub. Mix it with oils like coconut oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil or you can even mix it with honey and some drops of lemon juice. Gently rub the mixture in a circular manner and rinse it.
-
Salt:
Repeat the same process as mentioned with sugar. Since, it has finer grains, it will be less harsh on the skin. You can even mix it with some amount of moisturizing lotion.
These are some methods that prove to be very useful in exfoliating the skin. Also, do not forget to moisturize your skin after exfoliating. This will replenish your skin with the necessary nutrients.
